Կյանքը

1959 թվականին Մելբուռնի համալսարանում ստացել է հումանիտար գիտությունների բակալավրի աստիճան, իսկ 1962 թվականին ՝ պատմության մագիստրոսի աստիճան։ 1962-1963 թվականներին սովորել է Օսակի օտար լեզուների համալսարանում, որտեղ ստացել է ճապոնական լեզվի և մշակույթի դիպլոմ։ 1963-1966 թվականներին սովորել ևստացել է չինարենի դիպլոմ, իսկ երկու տարի անց դարձել արևելագիտության մագիստրոս։ 1974 թվականին ստացել է փիլիսոփայության դոկտորի աստիճան պատմության գծով ատենախոսության համար։

Դասավանդել է Լիդսի, Ադելաիդայի և Լե Տրոբայի համալսարաններում։

1990 թվականից Ավստրալիայի ազգային համալսարանում ճապոնագետ էր։

2007-2009 թվականներին եղել է Հարավկորեական թերթի խմբագրական խորհրդի անդամ։

Գիտական գործունեություն
