Ըստ հնագիտական պեղումների արդյունքների պարզվել է, որ մարկային զոհաբերություններ կատարել են Երկաթե դարի կելտերը: Գալիայի տարածքում(այժմյան Ֆրանսիայի հյուսիս-արևելքում) հայտնաբերվել են զանգվածային գերեզմաններ: Հնագետ Ժան Լուի Բռունոն{{lang-fr|[[Jean-Louis Brunaux]]}}, ով զբաղվում է պեղումներով այդ տարածքում, համարում է, որ այդ տեղերում զոհաբերություններ են կատարվել ռազմի աստծուն, որպես ծիսակատարության մաս: Մեկ այլ հնագետ` Մարտին Բռաունը{{lang-en|Martin Brown}}, հակադրվում է այս կարծիքին և համոզմունք հայտնում, որ դրանք սրբատեղիներ են, որտեղ թաղված են ոչ թե զոհաբերված, այլ կռվում հերոսաբար ընկած ռազմիկներ:
