Թայփի

«Թայփի, կամ՝ Թռուցիկ հայացք պոլինեզիական կյանքին» (անգլ.՝ Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life), արկածային գրականության դասական համարվող ամերիկացի գրող Հերման Մելվիլի՝ 1846 թվականի սկզբներին՝ 26 տարեկան հասակում հրատարակած առաջին երկը, որը մասամբ հիմնված է նրա անձնական փորձի վրա։ Բանն այն է, որ Մելվիլը 1842 թվականին մի որոշ ժամանակ պատանդ է եղել Խաղաղ օվկիանոսի Մարկիզյան կղզեխմբի Նուկու Հիվա (գրքում հիշատակված է «Նուկուհևա» անվանումով) կղզում։ Վեպի վերնագիրն առնչվում է այդ կղզու Թայ Փի Վայ (ֆր.՝ Tai Pi Vai) հովտին, որը ժամանակին կոչվել է Թայփի։ Գրողի կենդանության օրոք այս վեպը համարվել է նրա երկերից առավել սիրվածն ու տարածվածը և հիմք է հանդիսացել, որ Մելվիլը «մարդակերների մեջ ապրած մարդու» համբավ ձեռք բերի։ 19-րդ դարում ընթերցողներից շատերի կարծիքով «Թայփի» վեպից հետո Մելվիլի՝ որպես գրողի, կարիերան թեքվել է դեպի վայրէջք, սակայն 20-րդ դարում նրա գրական ողջ ժառանգության նորովի բացահայտումից հետո պարզ է դարձել, որ, «Թայփի»-ն ընդամենը սկիզբն է դրել Մելվիլի գրողական կարիերայի, որի գագաթնակետը դարձել է 1851 թվականին լույս ընծայված «Մոբի Դիկ» վեպը։
