Առաջին ճանաչված հայ բեմանկարիչ [[Վարդգես Սուրենյանց]]ը կապված է եղել [[Մոսկվա]]յի և [[Պետերբուրգ]]ի թատրոնների հետ։
[[19-րդ դար]]ի բեմի հարդարման հայ առաջին մասնագետները համարվում են Հ․ Պաղտատլյանը, Հ․ Հեքիմյանը ([[Կոստանդնուպոլիս]], [[Արամյան թատրոն]]), արևելահայ թատրոնում՝ Ս․ Աբամելիքյանը ([[Թիֆլիս]])։<ref name="թատրոն" />
