Ինչոնը հաճախ անվանում են «Կորեայի մայրաքաղաքի դարպասներ» և դիտվում է որպես Մեծ Սեուլի մի մաս։ Սեուլի և Ինչոնի մետրոպոլիտենները կապված են միմյանց հետ։ Սակայն Ինչոնը անկախ վարչատարածքային միավոր է և Կորեայի կարևորագույն քաղաքներից մեկը։
