Հիմնականում զբաղվել է միջատների, ինչպես նաև սարդերի ու կարիճների կենսակերպի, բնազդների ուսումնասիրությամբ։ Հատուկ ուշադրության է արժանի նրա «Միջատաբանական հուշեր» (1879  -  1907 թթ. տասհատորյակը, որտեղ ամփոփված են նրա երկարամյա դիտողությունների արդյունքները միջատների և այլ հոդվածոտանիների վերաբերյալ։
 
Լինելով էվոլյուցիոն տեսության հակառակորդ՝ Ֆաբրը գտնում էր, որ կենսաբանական տեսակներն իրենց բնազդներով ու սովորություններով անփոփոխ են ստեղծման պահից ի վեր։
