Սկանդերբեգի առասպել, Ալբանիայի ազգայնականության առասպելներից մեկն է[1][2][3]։ 19-րդ դարի վերջի Ալբանական պայքարի և ալբանական ազգային զարթոնքի ընթացքում Սկանդերբեգը ալբանացիների համար դարձել է խորհրդանիշ, և վերածվել Ալբանիայի ազգային հերոսի և առասպելի[4]։

Սկանդերբեգի հուշարձանը Տիրանայում

Նրա մահից հետո Արբերեշի ժողովուրդը (իտալո-ալբանացիներ) բալկաններից էմիգրացվում են դեպի հարավային Իտալիա, բայց նրա հիշատակը պահպանվում է հիշողություններում և երգացանկում[5]։ 16-րդ դարից մինչև 19-րդ դարի վերջ Սկանդերբեգի հիշատակը պահպանվում էր բանավոր ավանդույթների շնորհիվ Օսմանյան թուրքերի ներխուժման մասին ընկալումներում։ Այն վերստին ի հայտ է գալիս 19-րդ դարի վերջին, երբ արբեշեշը Սկանդերբեգի վերաբերյալ ավանդույթները փոխանցում է Ալբանիայի սահմաններից դուրս։

Այս եղանակով Սկանդեբերգի կերպարը բերվում է ազգային հերոսի մակարդակի։ Ալբանիայի ազգայնական գրողները Սկանդերբեգի պատմությունը վերածում են առասպելի, ուստի նրա գործերը դառնում են պատմական փաստերի, ճշմարտությունների, կես ճշմարտությունների, հայտնագործությունների և բանահյուսության խառնուրդ [6]։

Սկանդերբեգի առասպելը ալբանական ազգայնականության միակ առասպելն է, որի հիմքում մարդն է։ Մյուսները հիմնված են գաղափարների, վերացական հասկացությունների և կոլեկտիվիզմի վրա [7]։

Ըստ Օլիվեր Ջենս Շմիթի` այսօր գոյություն ունեն երկու տարբեր Սկանդբերգներ՝ պատմական Սկանդբերգը և առասպելական ազգային հերոսը, ինչպես ներկայացվում են Ալբանիայի դպրոցներում և Տիրանայում և Պրիշտինայում ազգայնամոլ մտավորականների կողմից [8]։

Նկարը կառուցված է անտեմուրալ առասպելական համալիրի մի մասի մեջ, որը խորհրդանշում է Ալբանիայի կողմից միավորված ալբանացիներին՝ որպես ազգի և քրիստոնեական աշխարհի պաշտպան թուրքական ներխուժման դեմ [9]։

16-րդ դարում «Պաշտպանությունը թուրքերի ներխուժման դեմ» կենտրոնական թեմա էր դարձել Արևելյան Կենտրոնական և Հարավարևելյան Եվրոպայում [10]։

Մարդիկ, ովքեր մասնակցել են Օսմանյան կայսրության դեմ իրականացվող արշավներին, անվանվում էին քրիստոնեության պաշտպանիչ պատ։ [10]։ Հռոմի Պապ Կալիֆտոս III-ը Սկանդերբեգին տվեց Քրիստոսի պաշտպան տիտղոսը [11]։ Ըստ Լուիզա Մարշալի` 18-րդ դարի ընթացքում Սկանդերբեգի առասպելը ձևավորվել և վերափոխվել է՝ համապատասխանելու բրիտանական ընթերցողների ճաշակին [12]։ «Սկանդերբեգի առասպելում» Սկանդերբեգի կերպարում ալբանական կաթոլիկ հոգևորականությունը, կարծես, ընկալում է Մայր Թերեզայի կերպարը` որպես Սկանդերբեգի գաղափարական ժառանգի, ով ավարտում է կաթոլիկության և ալբանականության սահմանները պահպանելու իր գործը` ներկայացնելով նոր դարաշրջան, որի գագաթնակետ եղավ Սկանդերբեգը [13][14]։

Մինչ օգտագործվում էին հունական հիշատակումները Սկանդերբեգի մասին, սերբ պատմաբանները, որոնք հաճախ հակասական մտքեր էին արտահայտում, օգտագործում էին Սկանդերբեգին՝ որպես սերբ-ալբանական համատեղ առաջընթացի խորհրդանիշ (1866) [15]։

Մյուս կողմից քառասուն տարի անց, քաղաքական այլ միջավայրում Ալբանիայի մեծ մասի մեջ Սկանդերբեգի խունացած հիշողությունը օգտագործվել է որպես էթնիկ ինքնության բացակայության և նույնիսկ միջնադարյան հերոսի այդ սերբական կերպարի բացակայության ապացույց [16]։

Սպիրիդոն Գոպչևիչը` Օսմանյան Բալկաններում սերբական էքսպանսիոնիզմի կողմնակիցը, պնդում էր, որ հյուսիսային ալբանացիներն իրականում սերբ են [17]։ Մոնտենեգրոյում (մի երկիր, որն ուներ ցեղային կառույցներ, որոնք նման էին հյուսիսային Ալբանիայի նահանգներին և նույնպես նման մտածելակերպ ունեին) Սկանդերբեգը նշվում էր որպես սլավոնական հերոս, գաղափար, որն ընդգրկված էր շարժման մեջ, որպեսզի արդարացնի Չեռնոգորիայի տարածումը հյուսիսային Ալբանիայում [18]։ 19-րդ դարի վերջին բրոշյուրներ էին լայնորեն տարածվում, որում Չեռնոգորիա-Ալբանիա սահմանի երկայնքով Սկանդերբեգը ներկայացվում էր որպես սլավոնական հերոս [19] Առասպելը հատկապես տարածված է Քուչի ցեղում, որտեղ Դրեկալովիչի եղբայրությունը, հայտնի էր նաև Նովոկչի` Նոր Քուչի անունով [20]։ Սերբական պատմագրությունը հիմնավորում է այն տեսությունը, որ Սկանդերբեգի մեծ պապը` Բրանիլոն, ազնվական է եղել Զեթայից[21]։

Պատերազմները, որ մղվում էին Օսմանյան կայսրության և Սկանդերբեգի միջև, նրա մահվանից հետո հանգեցրեց ալբանացիների միգրացիային դեպի հարավային Իտալիա և արբերեշ ժողովրդի (համայնքի) ստեղծմանը[5][5]։ Սկանդերբեգի համբավը պահպանվում է քրիստոնեական Եվրոպայում դարերով։ Երբ Ալբանիան մեծապես իսլամանում է նրա համբավը մարում է[22][23], չնայած նրա հիշատակը դեռ պահպանվում էր բանավոր ավանդույթում [24] Միայն 19-րդ դարում Ալբանիայի ազգային վերածննդի ժամանակաշրջանում, երբ Սկանդեբերգը վերագտնվեց և բարձրացվեց ազգային միֆի մակարդակի Ալբանացիների համար[25][26]։ 19-րդ դարի վերջին Սկանդերբեգի խորհրդանիշը մեծացավ ալբանացիների ազգային պայքարներում և միջնադարյան այդ հերոսը այդ ժամանակաշրջանում վերածվեց ազգային հերոսի։ Արբերեշները իրենց ավանդույթները փոխանցեցին Իտալիայի սահմաններից դուրս գտնվող ալբանական էլիտային[27]։ Այսպիսով, Սկանդերբեգի առասպելը չի հորինվել ալբանացի մտավորականների կողմից, ինչպես պելեսգյան առասպելն էր։ Սկանդերբեգի առասպելը արբերեշցիների ֆոլկլորի մաս է կազմում և հանրային հիշողություն է[27]։ 19-րդ դարի վերջին` 1898 թվականին, Նաիմ Ֆրաշերը «Սկանդերբերգի պատմություն» աշխատությունն է հրատարակում, գործիչը տեղափոխվում է նոր հարթություն [28] Ալբանական ազգայնականներին անհրաժեշտ էր միջնադարյան պատմությունից ստեղծել մի դրվագ ալբանական ազգային դիցաբանության առանցքի համար և նրանք ընտրեցին Սկանդերբեգին միջնադարյան թագավորության կամ կայսրության բացակայության պայմաններում[29]։ Սկանդերբեգի կերպարը ենթարկվեց ալբանացման, և նա ներկայացվեց որպես ազգային հերոս [30]։ Հետագայում գրքերն ու պարբերականները շարունակել են այդ թեման [31] և ազգայնական գրողները պատմությունը վերածում են առասպելի[32]։
