English: Loggia and Chapel of Coronation (Palermo Cathedral). The Loggia was erected in late 16th. century, reusing some Byzantine columns and capitals that may in turn have been used in the Great Mosque, preceding the Norman Cathedral. Architectural elements of an Aghlabid building (9th. century), maybe referable to the Great Mosque, were enclosed in the fondations of the Norman Chapel of Santa Maria l'Incoronata (en: the crowned), located behind the Loggia.
Italiano: Loggia e Cappella dell'Incoronazione, prospicienti la Cattedrale di Palermo. La Loggia fu eretta nel tardo '500, riutilizzando elementi di spoglio (colonne e capitelli) probabilmente appartenuti alla Grande Moschea. Resti di una sala ipostila di età aghlabita (IX secolo) forse pertinenti alla distrutta moschea, furono inglobati nelle fondazioni della normanna Cappella di Santa Maria l'Incoronata (XII secolo) prospiciente la Loggia. |
